Many people remain skeptical about platelet-rich plasma (PRP) because it sounds “far out there.” Yet despite naysayers, there are thousands of PRP providers all over the world who swear by this popular regenerative therapy, including us!
Several clinical studies on PRP are currently underway, according to the Mayo Clinic. It’s worth noting that several small studies over the years have all consistently demonstrated PRP to be highly effective for growing hair. In fact, a 2019 study published in the International Journal of Trichology followed 30 men with androgenic alopecia (male pattern baldness), and found PRP to be more effective than Rogaine! In our practice, we routinely see the benefits of PRP among our patients. We wouldn’t offer this regenerative therapy if it didn’t produce results!
To help you better understand PRP, here is the why behind how this popular alternative therapy works:
How we get your PRP.
To obtain your PRP, we simply draw a small portion of your blood in our office. We then spin your blood in a centrifuge to isolate the PRP. (This process takes only minutes.) PRP is simply a small, extremely concentrated portion of your blood that is packed with healing properties and growth factors. PRP is actually golden in color, not red, because it doesn’t contain any red blood cells.
PRP is a healing substance.
Your PRP is packed with proteins that support several vital functions, including cellular growth and blood clotting. When PRP is injected into specific areas, it boosts your body’s natural healing response. PRP as a healing substance is not new. It’s been used among sports medicine providers for years to help speed healing after injury.
Here at Belle Marin Aesthetic Medicine, we use PRP hair restoration to help trigger new hair growth among anyone who is dealing with hair loss. We can also use PRP to improve the tone and texture of skin with a PRP Facial and PRP Facelift.
The benefits we see with PRP.
PRP Facial: When we combine PRP with microneedling, we see dramatic improvements to the texture of skin. A series of PRP Facials with microneedling can diminish and fade deep acne scars and other textural irregularities. PRP Facial can also improve stretch marks, lax skin, lines and wrinkles and more.
PRP Facelift: PRP is injected into areas of the face or body. PRP injections can be combined with dermal fillers, depending on your goals. PRP injections spur cellular growth, helping to brighten your complexion, boost blood flow, improve discoloration and diminish lines and wrinkles.
PRP hair restoration: A series of PRP treatments, administered over the course of several months, can help you enjoy a thicker, fuller head of your own hair. PRP works without drugs or surgery — it’s just your body’s own natural healing process at work!
