Summer is in full swing, and it’s time to plan for warm nights, sunny weekends and exciting travel opportunities! With a few key tips and tricks, keeping your skin in tip-top shape while on vacation is easier than you might think. Whether you’ll be enjoying a beach getaway or a sight-seeing adventure, you can keep your complexion glowing throughout the whole trip.
Here’s how:
1. Maintain your skin care routine
If you already follow a thorough routine that keeps your skin healthy, try your best to continue this regimen when you travel. While it’s certainly possible and sometimes beneficial to change up your typical routine, it can lead to breakouts as your skin adjusts. Sticking with your usual routine that’s designed for your unique skin type and concerns can help keep your complexion clean and nourished.
2. Prioritize sleep
Traveling can be hard work, which is why it’s extra important to get your beauty sleep! As you sleep, your skin gets a chance to repair itself — blood flow increases while your organs rebuild collagen and correct damage caused by UV exposure, reducing signs of aging. Not getting enough quality sleep can lead to dark circles under the eyes, dull skin tone and dryness, as well as more pronounced fine lines and wrinkles.
3. Keep yourself and your skin hydrated
A crucial way to support healthy skin is by maintaining the moisture balance in your body. With proper hydration comes a more even skin tone and better skin health overall. We recommend drinking at least nine eight-ounce glasses of water per day, or more if you’re spending your days sightseeing. Plus, make sure you hydrate before boarding a flight — airplanes typically have low humidity levels which causes the body to lose moisture more quickly.
4. Wear sunscreen
Daily application of an SPF 30, broad-spectrum sunscreen is essential no matter what you’re doing, but it’s especially important if you’re spending more time outdoors than usual. Keep in mind UV rays get stronger the closer you get to the equator, so adjust your sunscreen application accordingly. Make sure you apply sunscreen prior to boarding any flights since you’ll be much closer to the sun and more susceptible to UV radiation.
5. Opt for low maintenance makeup
On days when you’re traveling or sight-seeing, you may find it helpful to either avoid wearing makeup altogether or opt for more lightweight options that won’t weigh you down or clog your pores. Give your skin some room to breathe, and you’ll thank yourself later!
