Happy April! Did you know it’s World Health Day this Sunday? Living healthy isn’t always easy, but one of the ways I stay motivated is by keeping my To Do list short and sweet. Here’s a look at my “healthy” list for 2019. I hope it inspires you to stay on the road to optimal health one simple step at a time!
Ditch the Diet Do’s and Don’ts.
There’s a simple way of eating right, according the American Institute of Cancer Research. They’ve created the New American Plate, which is a simple ratio of “healthy” eating. Every meal you eat should aim for a ratio of one-third protein and two-thirds plant-based fruits and veggies. In other words, replace your meat and potatoes with meat and a salad. Based on a wide range of research, the New American Plate can boost your health by helping you maintain a healthy weight while lowering your risk for disease.
Remember that a little is better than nothing.
If you can’t exercise an hour at the gym every day, that’s ok. Have you considered exercising 10 minutes at the gym? High-intensity interval training (HIIT) is a hot topic in the fitness world these days because it delivers results. Research indicates that you can get the same level of benefits from just 10 minutes of HIIT as much longer stretches of lower-intensity exercise. Be sure to check with your doctor first before diving into HIIT, and consult with a professional at the gym to ensure proper technique.
